According to ABC News' latest report, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia believes that Trump could be disqualified from the 2024 U.S. election.

On Sunday, Sept. 3, Kaine explained that there could be a strong legal argument that can use the 14th Amendment to ban the former president from running in 2024.

He explained that the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol attack-related actions of Donald Trump could lead to his disqualification.

"In my view, the attack on the Capitol that day was designed for a particular purpose at a particular moment, and that was to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power as is laid out in the Constitution," explained Kaine.

With this fact, he concluded that a powerful argument would be made against Trump to bar him from the U.S. presidential election.

The Democratic senator also stated that his congressional colleagues are debating if they will use the 14th Amendment to disqualify Donald Trump instead of aiming for a second impeachment.

He explained that the first option would be a more productive method to prevent Trump from becoming the U.S. president again.

CNN Politics explained that election officials are already studying the legality of efforts to disqualify Trump based on the 14th Amendment.

For those who have no idea what this is, the 14th Amendment states that American officials who engage in insurrection or rebellion will be disqualified from holding any future office.

It specifically refers to U.S. officials who take an oath to uphold the Constitution. However, the issue here has been applied twice since the late 1800s and doesn't explain how to enforce the ban.

Because of its complications, Kaine said that Democrats should not put all their hopes in this legal maneuver.

Kaine added that they should focus on their side to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election instead.
