NYC Mayor Eric Adams predicted that the ongoing asylum seeker crisis would lead to New York City's downfall. The American official warned that he is seeing no ending to the increasing numbers of migrants arriving in NYC.
NYC Mayor Claims Rising Asylum Seekers Will Be the City's Downfall
On Wednesday, Sept. 6, a community conference was conducted on the Upper West Side of NYC. During this meeting, Adams shared his opinion about the asylum seekers going to New York City.
"And let me tell you something New Yorkers, never in my life have I had a problem that I didn't see an ending to, I don't see an ending to this," said the NYC leader via ABC 7.
He concluded that the issue of never-ending migrants "will destroy New York City." Adams announced that 110,000 asylum seekers have reached New York City since April 2022.
He pointed out the buses of asylum seekers that are arriving almost every day in New York City.
The NYC mayor explained that this problem is creating a $12 billion deficit in the city's budget, claiming that this will continue for the next three years.
"The city we knew, we're about to lose, and we are all in this together, all of us," claimed the NYC official.
Eric Adams Criticizes Biden for Lack of Help
The Daily Mail UK reported that NYC Mayor Eric Adams is criticizing U.S. President Joe Biden because of his lack of help in New York City's migrant issues.
Previously, Adams publicly called on Biden, as well as Gov. Kathy Hochul, to help him solve the asylum seeker crisis.
What he is asking for is to expedite work authorizations so that NYC residents can get legal jobs and not rely on the social safety net.
Aside from this, he is also requesting for more federal funding. Unfortunately, Biden didn't provide the extra budget.
While Adams condemns Biden, he is also criticized for the statements he made about asylum seekers. The Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless said that Eric's words were "reckless and unproductive fear-mongering."
In a joint statement, the two groups said that Eric Adams villainized and dehumanized asylum seekers who were just trying to flee unimaginable situations in their home countries.
They explained that these migrants are merely seeking an opportunity to secure a better life and provide for their beloved families.
