Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will make another U.S. trip this September. This will be his second visit ever since the Russia-Ukraine war started.
When he arrives in the United States, the Ukrainian leader will be quite busy because he has many agendas to attend to.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to Make 2nd US Trip
According to Fox News' latest report, Zelenskyy is expected to arrive in the U.S. on Tuesday, Sept. 19. One of his agendas is to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The New York Times reported that Volodymyr will use this opportunity to try and convince developing nations that are leaning towards Russia to support Ukraine instead.
After that, he will travel to Washington D.C. to visit the White House, as well as meet with congressional leaders.
Analysts said that the upcoming U.S. visit of Zelenskyy will be a more delicate political mission since it will happen while Republican lawmakers shared their concerns regarding the $24 billion military aid for Ukraine, which was proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden.
U.S. President's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan explained why Volodymyr's second U.S. trip is a big deal for Ukraine.
"It certainly comes at a critical time, as Russia desperately seeks help from countries like North Korea for its brutal war in Ukraine, as Ukrainian forces continue to make progress in their counteroffensive," said Sullivan.
The official added that the Ukrainian president not only wants to see Joe Biden but also hopes to meet congressional leaders from both parties to make the case that the U.S. has been a great partner, especially during the Russian invasion.
Skepticism Over $24 Billion Ukraine Aid
CNN Edition reported that more and more Republicans are becoming skeptical over the proposed $24 billion aid for Ukraine.
Because of this, the Pentagon's watchdog decided to establish a new team, which will monitor the security assistance of the U.S. government in Ukraine.
Before September ends, additional staff are expected to arrive in Ukraine to help the team. They will be stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv to monitor the financial aid.
Since the Ukraine aid spending of the U.S. is further increasing, a growing number of Republicans are starting to question if it is really necessary to spend billions of dollars just to assist Kyiv.
