A new study revealed that more and more Americans are now living alone. This means that the social and family dynamics in the U.S. are changing.

If this lifestyle trend continues, it could have significant impacts on society, business, government, as well as the American culture.

More and More Americans Now Prefer Living Alone, Claims New Study

Recently, the U.S. Census Bureau said that more than 46% of American adults are single. That's around 117 million U.S. residents who are unmarried.

The Census Bureau said that these numbers include Americans-18 years old and above-who had divorced, are widowed, and who have never married before.

But, this doesn't prove that these single Americans are really living alone in a household. Now, SmartAsset, a financial tech firm, conducted its own study to see how many U.S. residents are living in isolation.

SmartAsset examined more than 340 households in the largest U.S. cities. Based on its findings, single-person households increased by up to 28%, as reported by Yahoo Finance.

Aside from this, the new study also showed that half of households in six U.S. cities are nearly compromised by single Americans. These include Washington (D.C.), Richmond (Virginia), Alexandria (Virginia), Cleveland (Ohio, and Cincinnati (Ohio).
