King Charles, Queen Camilla Visit Paris
During a friendly meeting, Macron and King Charles immediately embraced one another. The Royal couple arrived shortly before 2:00 p.m. on a private chartered flight from Farnborough aboard the 'baby Voyager' Airbus plane, where French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne officially welcomed them on behalf of President Macron and the French government.
They were also met by foreign secretary James Cleverly, British ambassador to France Dame Menna Rawlings, and French ambassador to the United Kingdom Hélène Tréheux-Duchêne.
Camilla was a flash of color in an elegant dusky pink wool crepe coat dress by Fiona Clare and a pink beret-shaped hat by milliner Philip Treacy, which she gripped closely due to windy conditions as they walked along a red carpet that had been meticulously brushed earlier.
Macron, 45, and his wife Brigitte, 70, met the royals at the Arc de Triomphe for a ceremony of remembrance and wreath-laying. As the Queen repeatedly attempted to keep her hat in position, President Macron was seen laughing with her.
However, as the King and the President laid the wreath, both nations' air forces performed a magnificent flyby over the renowned Parisian landmark, according to Daily Mail.
The Arc de Triomphe Ceremony
As part of the ceremony, the president invited King Charles to ignite the monument's eternal flame, which burns in memory of those who perished in the First and Second World Wars. Macron bowed slightly to the King and Queen while Bridgette Macron, dressed more professionally than Camilla in a navy jacket and short blue skirt with heels, gave Camilla a cordial peck on each cheek.
Before His Majesty was accompanied by the President to inspect the soldiers, a military band played the national anthems of Britain and France. The band comprised the Regimental Band of the Garde Républicaine, the French Colour Guard, and the Tri-Service Guard of Honour.
During this time, the Queen and Madame Macron engaged in a lively conversation. Following the Guard Inspection, King Charles and President Emmanuel Macron made their way to the Plateau, the center of the Arc de Triomphe, where they visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Before laying a wreath in remembrance of those who perished in the First and Second World Wars, both men bowed in stillness in front of the eternal flame beneath the war memorial. In a floral arrangement of white and red roses, the King tucked a card inscribed in English and French with the phrase "In eternal memory."
Following the lighting, the bugle call 'Aux Morts', the French equivalent of 'The Last Post', which means 'to the deceased', was played, followed by a minute of silence. La Marseillaise, the French national anthem, came after the British anthem as the Patrouille de France and the Red Arrows performed an impressive flypast above the Champs-élysées.
The Arc was the location of Her Majesty's 2014 Ceremonial Arrival for Her Majesty's final State Visit to France, as per Independent.
