Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has secured a new $325 million US aid for Ukraine.
The latest military assistance package was confirmed on Thursday, September 21, after Zelenskyy met with US President Joe Biden.
$325 Million US Aid for Ukraine Secured by Volodymyr Zelenskyy
According to The Guardian's latest report, the Biden Administration recently requested an additional $24 billion in military assistance for Ukraine from the US Congress.
However, many officials are against this billion-dollar Ukraine aid. Although this is the case, Joe Biden still approved an additional $325 million aid package for the European country.
"With the days beginning to turn colder, Russia once more looks to use winter as a weapon against people in Ukraine," said the US president via ABC News.
"As I discussed with President Zelenskyy, the people of Ukraine are steeled for this struggle ahead. And the United States is going to continue to stand with you," he added.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the latest military assistance package includes additional warfare supplies, such as air defense, cluster munitions, and artillery ammunition.
The US president said they are enhancing Ukrainian air defense capabilities among their priorities so that critical infrastructures can be protected, allowing them to operate during the "coldest and darkest days of the year."
Aside from this, Joe Biden also promised that the first US Abrams tanks would be delivered to Ukraine before September ends. But, the military assistance package is missing one thing: the Ukrainian government has been asking for ATACMS long-range missiles.
The National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said these advanced long-range missiles would not be included in the latest Ukraine aid. However, it doesn't mean that this request will be taken off the table.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy Thanks Joe Biden
The Ukrainian president showed his gratitude, thanking Biden for the very powerful military aid package for Ukraine. Zelenskyy said that this assistance package is clearly what his troops need as they fend off Russian soldiers.
During his meeting with the US president, Zelenskyy said they are strengthening the two countries' relationship to protect Ukraine's freedom and democracy and its residents.
Volodymyr added that he started his day in the US Congress to thank American citizens and officials for their huge support during the ongoing Russian invasion. He further stated that he felt trust between him and Joe Biden, enabling them to have a frank and constructive conversation.
