The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that hundreds of thousands of mattresses sold by Costco were recalled due to mold growth.
This latest issue alarms experts since CPSC said that mold growth can negatively harm consumers' health. Here are the affected mattress brands and other major details.
CPSC Warns About Costco Mattresses Mold Growth Issue
In the latest recall, around 48,000 mattresses from Costco were affected, as confirmed by the U.S. CPSC. The consumer safety agency announced that two brands were impacted by the mass recall.
These are the Novaform Dreamway 8-inch and Novaform ComfortGrande 14-in mattresses, which are both manufactured by FXI, one of the industry-leading sleep and comfort solutions producers across the globe.
CPSC said that molds grew in these mattresses because of an alleged water exposure during the manufacturing processes of FXI. The organization explained that this issue allowed the molds to develop.
The product safety agency said that the latest recall started on Sept. 21. Costco consumers who purchased one of the two mentioned mattresses can either have a refund or a replacement.
If you are not sure if your mattress has mold growth, FXI said that if you own the DreamWay and it was manufactured between Jan. 30 and Apr. 30, then you are eligible for a refund or replacement. For those who have the ComfortGrande, it should be manufactured between Jan. 2 and Apr. 30.
CPSC said that affected consumers can contact FXI via 888-886-2057. This hotline is active from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. ET from Mondays to Fridays. They can also visit the official Novaform recall page to see further details on how they can get a refund or replacement for their affected mattresses.

Dangers of Mold Growths in Mattresses
CPSC warned that the molds in affected Novaform mattresses could negatively affect the health of owners, especially those who have allergies, lung complications, or weak immune systems, as reported by CBS News.
Health experts stated that mold growth in mattresses can cause coughing and sneezing if people inhale their airborne spores. Aside from this, they could also experience watery eyes and runny noses.
In more extreme scenarios, mattress mold growths can cause respiratory illnesses, such as bronchitis and asthma. These are just some of the health risks posed by molds. You can click this link to learn more.
