Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have agreed to temporarily keep their two daughters, Willa and their younger daughter, in New York City according to court documents filed on September 25.
The documents specify that the children must remain in the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, including New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley, as per E! News.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Temporarily Agree on Child Custody
Turner, 27, and Jonas, 34, have consented to these conditions, as outlined in the documents. The agreement states, "The parties have agreed to the entry of the attached proposed Interim Consent Order, without prejudice to either party's claims and defenses, prohibiting the removal of the parties' children from the jurisdictions of the United States District Courts for the Southern & Eastern Districts of New York pending further order of this Court."
In the event of any violation of this order, the documents affirm that the court has the authority to take or cause to be taken measures under Federal or State law, as appropriate, to protect the well-being of the child involved or to prevent the child's further removal or concealment before the final disposition of the petition.
This temporary agreement follows closely on the heels of Turner's lawsuit against her estranged husband, Joe Jonas, in which she sought the return of their two young daughters to England.
According to court documents, Turner filed a petition on September 21 in the southern district of New York, claiming that their daughters had been wrongfully retained in New York City, away from their habitual residence in the United Kingdom.
The documents explain that the former couple had established England as their permanent residence in April 2023, to enroll their children in school there. The filing reveals that Jonas and Turner began renting a home in May 2023 and planned to move into a permanent residence by December 2023.
However, due to complications arising from their relationship and travel arrangements over the summer, they decided to have their daughters accompany Jonas on his band's US tour, which commenced in July.
During this period, Turner was occupied filming a new drama series in the UK. Jonas initiated divorce proceedings in Miami Dade County, Florida, on September 1. Turner learned of the divorce filing through media reports on September 5, according to The Independent.
Court Order Restricts Child Relocation Amid Jonas-Turner Divorce
In response to these developments, a representative for Joe Jonas stated that following his divorce filing in Florida, a court order had already been issued that prohibited both parents from relocating their children.
Turner was reportedly served with this order on September 6. The representative explained that Jonas and Turner had a constructive meeting in New York on a Sunday discussing co-parenting arrangements.
However, less than 24 hours later, Turner indicated her desire to take the children to the UK permanently and demanded their passports.
While Jonas is reportedly open to their daughters being raised in the US and the UK, his representative emphasized that their children are American citizens born in the United States and have spent most of their lives there.
The representative characterized this situation as an unfortunate legal dispute arising from the end of their marriage and refuted the use of terms like abduction"as misleading and potentially harmful to the legal process, Daily Mail reported.
