The Disney Plus password crackdown started earlier than expected. This was confirmed after Canadian users received an email message from the streaming platform.
If you are in Canada and regularly use Disney+, here are the major details you need to know about this latest password crackdown.
Disney Plus Password Crackdown in Canada Starts Earlier Than Expected
According to Mashable's latest report, the Disney Plus platform sent an email to its users in Canada to inform them that the password crackdown is about to begin.
After that, the Canadian Disney Plus subscriber agreement was updated to make the password crackdown official. Based on the changes, streamers will no longer be able to share their passwords outside their household starting on Nov. 1.
"[Y]ou may not share your subscription outside of your household," the Disney Entertainment, which is The Walt Disney Company's division operating the streaming platform.
"'Household' means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein," the department clarified.
The Disney Plus also explained that if users are not able to follow this upcoming password policy, their accounts could face limitations or be terminated.
Engadget reported that Disney CEO Bob Iger already announced the password crackdown plan in August. He previously said that they were exploring ways to address the account-sharing issue happening within the streaming platform.
Aside from this, Iger also promised that they were looking for the best options that would allow paying Disney Plus customers to share their accounts with their friends and family members.
However, the password crackdown was expected to start around 2024. This is why the Nov. 1 deadline annoucement surprises many users, especially those in Canada.

Aside from explaining the upcoming password restriction, the new Disney Plus subscriber agreement also suggests that there could be a new paid option that will allow users to share their passwords.
The Disney Entertainment explained that this new fee will apply to all users unless their Service Tier doesn't permit password sharing completely.
As of writing, the exact details of this new password-sharing fee have not been released yet. But, sources said that the Disney Plus could follow Netflix's password-sharing fee, which is $8 per person each month.
