No. 2 Wichita State's 29-0 record earned them the Missouri Valley Conference title. The Shockers can now become the first team since the 1990-91 season to start with a 30-0 record if they can pull away with a win on Tuesday.
"It means a lot, it really does," Shockers sophomore point guard Fred VanVleet said of winning the MVC championship, via ESPN. "It's something we didn't do last year. It's special, and we appreciate it. But, at the same time, we have more goals ahead of us."
Wichita State has four players averaging double-digit scores each game. Senior forward Cleanthony Early leads the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game, followed by sophomore guard Ron Baker (13.0 ppg), VanVleet (12.3 ppg) and junior guard Tekele Cotton (10.4).
The Shockers are coming off an 83-54 blowout on Saturday of Drake.
