‘Dancing With the Stars’ Hopes New Co-Host Erin Andrews Can Attract ‘Young, Male Followers’?

Brooke Burke-Charvet was stunned to learn ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" had fired her after co-hosting for seven years with Tom Bergeron. She took to Twitter to share the news writing "Weird day... Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS... ME."

Following her shocking "elimination," the dancing reality show announced that Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews would be taking her place. According to US Weekly, a source revealed that the show chose Andrews because of her fans and are hoping she will be able to attract a "young, male following."

"Everyone loved [Brooke], but the execs wanted a whole new show," the source said adding that Andrew's "following" was appealing to the network. "They're desperate for those viewers."

Andrews isn't new to "Dancing With the Stars." She competed in Season 10 with her partner and pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

"'Dancing' has always been a family. I call it the 'Dancing with the Stars' mafia. Once you're in that mafia, you're always in. It's always so much of your life. I'm just excited to be coming home," she told People magazine about her new gig.

Andrews said she knows people are going to be upset over the change and she realizes she has big shoes to fill but is looking forward to co-hosting.

"I don't blame the audience at all. How could you?" she said. "I know that I have huge shoes to fill. I'm a fan of Brooke. She was very wonderful toward me in my season. She was so caring and so fantastic. I can only hope I can emulate somebody like that and use her for guidance."

So far reactions to the news has been mixed with some "Dancing" fans agreeing Burke-Charvet needed to be replaced while others think Andrews is a horrible choice.

"What the hell are they doing on DWTS? First goes the band, then Brooke (not great loss there)... Now hiring Erin? WTF??" @tutiback tweeted.

"Huge mistake on their part!!! She's nothing but a wet mop with no personality at all... Bye bye show," @bmorton5 commented.
