A new Amazon-led e-commerce group has been established to fight against the rising fake reviews on online marketplaces.
This new alliance was announced on Oct. 17. Amazon said that it will be working with other e-commerce giants to protect consumers from inauthentic reviews.
Specifically, Amazon will be working with Expedia Group, Glassdoor, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot, and Booking.com.
New Amazon-Led E-Commerce Group To Fight Fake Reviews Arrives
Via its official press release, Amazon said that the new alliance is called the "Coalition for Trusted Reviews." The American e-commerce giant explained that this group is committed to protecting access to trustworthy consumer reviews across the globe.
"Together, members will define best practices for hosting online reviews and sharing methods of fake review detection, aiming to stop fake reviews at the source," explained Amazon.
Amazon's World Wide Selling Partner Service Vice President Dharmesh Mehta said that with this new collaboration, they can effectively fend off fraudulent review activities and prevent other similar malicious schemes, as reported by Yahoo News.
The official added that the greater alliance will help them prevent bad actors from attempting to "game" their systems. Of course, the new Coalition for Trusted Reviews can also provide better protection to consumers.
Amazon explained that they decided to establish the new e-commerce alliance after attending the 2022 Fake Reviews Conference, which was held in San Francisco.
During this event, which was organized by Tripadvisor, numerous experts in the e-commerce industry, as well as in the academic and governmental sectors, shared their concerns regarding the challenges posed by fake reviews.
After that, Amazon decided to encourage the mentioned e-commerce above to work with it and create the new Coalition for Trusted Reviews.
How Coalition for Trusted Reviews Will Prevent Fake Reviews
Amazon explained that the new Coalition for Trusted Reviews will protect consumers, as well as partners, from the rising fake reviews by engaging in several key areas, such as the following:
- Advocacy: Collaborating with public policy and academic leaders to promote the benefits to consumers of review content.
- Information Sharing: The alliance's members will share information that shows how fraudulent actors conduct their fake review schemes.
- Best Practice Sharing: The new e-commerce group will provide the best practices for hosting online reviews and sharing information in the updated content moderation process, as well as methods of fake review detection.
