Obamacare Update: 4 Million Enrolled In Health Care Plans

Federal officials announced on Tuesday that nearly 4 million people have signed up for health care through the Obamacare exchanges that began on Oct. 1, POLITICO reported.

The new numbers are up from 3.3 million in January, and Americans only have until March 31 to enroll.

Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn Tavenner published a blog post detailing the recent number of signups through both state and federal exchanges. As POLITCO noted, Tavenner did not include a demographic breakdown of the people who have signed up.

"Our outreach efforts are in full force with community partners and local officials participating in hundreds of events each week and enrollment assistors are helping more and more people enroll in coverage," she said.

She claimed that officials are continuing to see a "strong demand nationwide," citing over 12 million calls to the federal call center since October.

Tavenner also mentioned another report will be uploaded mid-March.

As opportunity for enrollment is closing in, members of the Obama administration have been stepping up their game to encourage uncovered people to sign up. On Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance on "The View," urging women and families to get coverage.

Due to a faulty website marking the beginning of enrollment and fierce opposition from Republicans, the White House updated their goal to 6 million, down from the 7 million they originally hoped for.
