Multiple sources reported that a cargo train collided with a passenger train at Bhairab, 80 kilometers northeast of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, on Monday (October 23).
According to Reuters, the freight train smashed into the passenger train from behind, damaging and overturning two passenger coaches.
Residents and rescuers rushed to the scene after the accident took place at around 15:30 local time (09:30 UTC).

Emergency personnel have since recovered at least 15 bodies at the scene, with projections the death toll would rise, Bhairab fire official Mosharraf Hossain told the Associated Press.
Video footage broadcast by local media also showed hundreds of people crowding the accident site as they searched for relatives.
"More than 100 people were injured," Bhairab official Sadiqur Rahman told Agence France-Presse.
Bangladesh Railway general manager Nazmul Islam also told local media that the freight train overshot its signal.
Train accidents are common in Bangladesh and are often caused by poor signaling, negligence, old tracks, or other rundown infrastructure, Mediacorp reported.
