U.S. President Joe Biden called for stronger gun laws after the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, which is considered to be the deadliest one recorded this 2023.
POTUS said that the American nation is mourning for the victims of Robert C. Card, who killed over 18 innocent residents and injured up to 50 civilians.
Here's what Joe Biden specifically said about the latest Maine mass shooting.
Joe Biden Calls for Stronger Gun Laws After Maine Mass Shooting
On Thursday, Oct. 26, Joe Biden said that the United States is mourning again after the "senseless and tragic mass shooting" in Lewiston, Maine.
"Today, Jill and I are praying for the Americans who've lost their lives, for those still in critical care, and for the families, survivors, and community members enduring shock and grief," said the American leader.
Joe Biden added that American citizens should heed local officials' warnings and guidance to ensure their safety, especially since the shooter is still at large.
Reuters reported that the U.S. president is also calling out Republicans in Congress to help him enact stronger gun laws to avoid further senseless mass shootings in the American nation.
"Far too many Americans have now had a family member killed or injured as a result of gun violence. That is not normal, and we cannot accept it," said Biden via the official White House press release.
In his own effort, POTUS said that he already told Maine Gov. Janet Mills, as well as Senators King, Collins, and Congressman Golden that his administration would provide everything they needed to support the affected state's residents.
He promised that the Biden Administration would continue to be there "every step of the way.

More Efforts to Regulate Guns Needed
During his speech, Biden said that the U.S. government already made some progress on gun safety through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Aside from this, he added that the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence has been established and two dozen executive actions were taken.
However, Biden clarified that these efforts are not enough to prevent further mass shootings. Because of this, he urged Republican lawmakers to fulfill their duties to protect U.S. citizens.
He called them out, saying that they should help him pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
Joe Biden also encouraged these lawmakers to require gun safe storage, end immunity from liability for gun manufacturers, and enact universal background checks.
