Marvel and Netflix team up for a new superhero series set to be filmed in New York City.
TheWrap reports Disney CEO Bob Iger and Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in Times Square on Wednesday the City will be accommodating filming for the Marvel series.
"Since 2008 Disney has directly contributed almost half a billion dollars to New York's economy through television and film production, along with approximately 9,000 jobs for New Yorkers," Iger said. "The Governor's policies make this great state a more affordable and attractive location, opening the door for even greater economic investment and job creation for New Yorkers. Our Marvel series for Netflix will inject millions directly into the local economy and create hundreds of new jobs."
The Marvel series will consist of 13 episodes following four characters: - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. According to TheWrap, the series will bring in about 3,000 jobs, including 400 full-time jobs, to New York City.
The news comes on the heels of Marvel's successful launch of their "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie trailer on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told IGN he was happy with fans' positive reactions to the teaser.
"Well, I was very pleased with it," Feige said, "because it's still early days for us, as the movie is coalescing and formulating itself in the cutting room, but there are a few things that we would be locked into: the cast, their looks, our use of music and our very unique tone. The fact that that's what that teaser is about and that's what people are embracing, there are a lot of happy people in the offices, that people are into this."
"Guardians of the Galaxy" is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 1. Check out the trailer for the movie below.
