Israel is free to use American weapons however it wants, as clarified by the U.S. Department of Defense, showing that the United States strongly supports the Middle Eastern country against Hamas terrorists.
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh announced that the U.S. government will not impose any restriction on the Israel Defense Force's use of American weapons in the ongoing war.
Here are other details shared by the top Pentagon official on Monday, Oct. 30.
US Says Israel is Free To Use American Weapons However It Wants
Sabrina Singh said that the U.S. government will not put limits on how the Israeli military troops use the weapons they provide.
"We're not putting any constraints on that. This is really up to the Israeli Defense Force," said the deputy Pentagon press secretary via Business Insider.
Singh further stated that it will be up to the IDF officials how they will order their soldiers to conduct their anti-Hamas operations using U.S.-made warfare weapons.
Ever since the deadly Hamas attack happened on Oct. 7, the United States has shown its unwavering support for Israel; the biggest overall recipient of U.S. military aid as of writing.
After the deadly Hamas terrorist attack, the U.S. government sent expedited military aid, which included precision-guided munitions, as well as interceptors for the Iron Dome air defense system.
Aside from this, America also sent two of its carrier strike groups while showing the regional airpower of the United States to deter other parties that are hostile to Israel.
US Still Wants Israel To Follow Humanitarian Laws
Although the U.S. doesn't put any restriction on its American weapons in Israel, Singh reiterated that the United States still want the IDF to follow humanitarian laws.
She explained that the U.S. will continue advocating the law of armed conflict and humanitarian laws. Recently, U.S. President Joe Biden also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
POTUS explained that Netanyahu has all the right to defend the Israeli nation, but he should do so in a way that is consistent with international law on protecting civilians, as reported by Reuters.
Before the call between Biden and Netanyahu happened, Jake Sullivan, the president's national security adviser, also said that Israel has a responsibility to protect Gazan residents' lives.
"What we believe is that every hour, every day of this military operation, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), the Israeli government should be taking every possible means available to them to distinguish between Hamas terrorists who are legitimate military targets and civilians who are not," explained Sullivan.
