DoorDash app's new pop-up message says no tip equals to longer delivery time.

Is DoorDash forcing customers to tip? It looks like it since the food delivery giant's app sends a pop-up message to users, saying that if they don't tip, their food will be delivered longer.

The latest effort of DoorDash to help their riders receive tips is now sparking a debate on the internet. If you regularly order food via the DoorDash app, here are the details about this new issue that you need to know.

The Verge reported that a prompt showing the forced tipping effort of DoorDash was posted on X (formerly called Twitter). Based on the X post, DoorDash users who enter a $0 tip will receive a warning message.

"Orders with no tip might take longer to get delivered - are you sure you want to continue?" said DoorDash in the app pop-up message.

"Dashers can pick and choose which orders they want to do. Orders that take longer to be accepted by Dashers tend to result in slower delivery," explained the food delivery company.

Experts said that this effort is DoorDash's way to show its customers that drivers will likely prioritize orders that will give them more profit.

DoorDash's spokesperson Jenn Rosenberg confirmed the tipping effort. She explained that the pop-up message is something they are currently testing.

Rosenberg explained that they are experimenting to see if this effort will "help create the best possible experience for all members" of the community.

Based on these details, DoorDash allows its riders to choose which order they want to take first. This means that Dashers are legally allowed to prioritize customers who give tips.

Because of the worsening economic inflation in the U.S., tipping has become a controversial topic for Americans. Many citizens no longer think that they should give tips, while others still support the tipping system.

Fast Company reported that after learning about DoorDash's forced tipping effort, many customers shared their opinions on X and other social media platforms.

Some of them said that they would continue supporting delivery drivers by tipping them. Meanwhile, others argued that the tipping issue could easily be solved if DoorDash simply increased the salaries of their Dashers.

Many Americans also shared their disappointment, saying that DoorDash should not rely on customers' tips. These are just some of the comments made by DoorDash consumers.
