Multiple media reports have stated that the private funeral for actor Matthew Perry took place on Friday, November 3, in a cemetery in Los Angeles.
His five co-stars from the popular sitcom Friends also attended the funeral. A two-hour burial ceremony was reportedly held at the Forest Lawn cemetery near Warner Bros Studios, where scenes of the sitcom were shot.
Forest Lawn Memorial Park is the burial site of famous Hollywood icons like Carrie Fisher, Paul Walker, and Stan Laurel.
Sudden Death
Perry, who was 54 years old, was discovered dead in his Los Angeles home last Saturday, on October 28.
According to BBC, there is no known explanation for his death. The findings of toxicological testing are still pending after a postmortem examination produced no clear answers.
There's no suspicion of foul play and no evidence of illegal drugs at the site. Reports indicate that prescription medications were discovered at his home.
Fans and other celebs expressed sorrow at the loss of the actor who portrayed the witty Chandler Bing on Friends from 1994 to 2004.
His Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer were seen in long-distance and aerial images taken outside the service. These photos were disseminated by US media.
His biological parents and stepdad also showed up there. According to TMZ, there were around 20 total attendees, all of whom wore black.
Perry's death occurred one year after the publishing of his book Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which recounted his decades-long fight with addiction to prescription pills and alcohol. A new organization established in Perry's honor to aid people struggling with addiction was unveiled on the same day as his burial.
The Foundation
The mission of the Matthew Perry Foundation is to aid those "struggling with the disease of addiction."
CNN stated that the actor's family has established a foundation to aid others struggling with addiction in the wake of his death.
In a press release, it reads: "In the spirit of Matthew Perry's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, we embark on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences, and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."
The National Philanthropic Trust is a public charity that supports and manages the organization.
On the foundation's website, Perry is quoted as saying, "When I die, I don't want Friends to be the first thing that's mentioned - I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that."
