An SI (Sports Illustrated) model and a celebrity dermatologist talked about Botox misconceptions that many people have believed for the past few years.
They shared their opinions-supporting them with facts-about Botox (botulinum neurotoxin) injections during the Botox Cosmetic Day 2023, which was celebrated on Nov. 15.
Here's what Dr. Anna Guanche, MD, and SI swim model Kristen Loulle Gaffney specifically said about Botox injections.
Swim Model, Celeb Dermatologist Explain Botox Isn't Only About Wrinkles, Women
Botox injections are usually associated with women who are in their mid-40s and 50s and just want to get rid of their wrinkles; on their faces and necks.
Now, several studies have shown that Botox injection usage is on the rise as more and more people (younger than 40-50 years old individuals) make their bookings to feel younger and improve their physical appearances.
SI model Gaffney explained that during the past years, influencers and celebrities avoided sharing that they were getting Botox injections, which led to misconceptions.
But, Gen Z celebrities and online influencers are different from them since these younger generations tend to openly admit that they are undergoing Botox and other cosmetic procedures.
Brianna Vance Fago, the MSN and APRN at Marlow Med Aesthetics, also shared her opinion regarding Botox.
"A couple of misconceptions about Botox are that it is only used for wrinkles and only for women. Botox can be used for excessive sweating, headaches, teeth grinding - or TMJ - and neck spasms," explained Fago via Fox News.
She added that although Botox injections are thought to be only for women, these cosmetic treatments can also help men, allowing them to have a natural appearance.
Botox Doesn't Make Face Freeze, Cause Pain
Dr. Anna Guanche, MD, also explained misconceptions about Botox injections making the face freeze or causing pain to consumers.
She said that these side effects are actually gone four hours after the procedure. Guanche, a dermatologist to former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, shares her knowledge about Botox and other cosmetics via TikTok and other social media platforms.
Guanche also shared other benefits of getting Botox, such as feeling more serene because injections can reduce frowning. Aside from Guanche, other doctors and organizations also believe that Botox injections can benefit people's physical, as well as mental health.
The National Geographic even claimed that Botox can treat depression and anxiety. Based on the American magazine's recent report, more than 53% of men and women who are receiving Botox injections are less likely to have depression or other similar mental illnesses.
