If you were hoping to play as a ninja in "Assassin's Creed 5," you're out of luck. Ubisoft executive Jade Raymond set the record straight about the location for the next "Assassin's Creed" installment.
In an interview with Adweek, Raymond dispelled rumors about a Feudal Japan setting for the upcoming installment, but likes the idea for the series.
"When we're building a franchise, we're thinking of a whole universe and how we're developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV," Raymond told Adweek. "If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it's never going to be quite as genius."
Since Raymond shot down the idea of Japan as the next location for "Assassin's Creed 5," a "leaked" news release allegedly from Ubisoft has made its way online, which revealed a possible location and release date for the upcoming title.
The press release published by GoNintendo.com reads:
Assassin's Creed V has been in the development cycle for almost three years, at Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto with development support from Ubisoft studios at Annecy, Quebec and Montpellier. Assassin's Creed V will release on the PlayStation®4 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. The game will release worldwide on November 4, 2014.
In the events of the ongoing Industrial Revolution, Assassin's Creed V follows the story of Samuel Fey, as he enters the Assassin Order in a time of change and Templar rule. Fey is a successful and respectful entrepreneur, who works outside the corrupt law to guarantee the security of his own and others' futures. Taking place during the closing years of the Industrial Revolution in Victorian London, players will explore all new locales as they uncover the truth behind the hidden ongoing rebellion.
Ubisoft has not confirmed the authenticity of the "leaked" news release.
