Florida Daycare Worker, Zobeida Gonzalez, Arrested After 3-Year-Old Drowns

A woman on duty at a childcare center in Miami was arrested after a three-year-old drowned at the center's pool in December, the Associated Press reported.

Zobeida Gonzalez, 63, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with aggravated manslaughter and child neglect. She helps run the Mayling Brache Family Day Care, which is owned by her daughter.

On Dec. 22, three-year-old Johnathan Feliciano drowned after squeezing through a hole in the pool fence. His parents dropped him off in the care of Gonzalez earlier that day.

According to an arrest warrant, surveillance video from a neighbor's house showed Johnathan was not being watched for at least half an hour. It also showed he was in the pool for 23 minutes before being noticed.

On Thursday, Gonzalez remained in jail on $22,500 bond. She does not have legal representation as of yet.

Unsanitary conditions and dangerous behavior has been discovered at several day care facilities across the country.

In October, a woman in Ohio was arrested for raping an infant at ABC Kidz Daycare. In August, a California daycare worker was arrested after a two-year-old ingested marijuana.
