Spyglass media, the company behind the 'Scream' franchise, dropped Melissa Barrera from 'Scream VII' after posting multiple hate speeches on her social media amid the Israel-Hamas war.
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to the representative of Barrera, who posted dozens of posts about the Israel-Hamas war on October 7.

A spokesperson for Spyglass released a statement and said that their company's stance on the war has been unequivocally clear, as they have zero tolerance for antisemitism or incitement of hate in any form, including false reference to genocide, ethnic cleansing, and Holocaust distortion.
Barrera wrote in a post that Gaza was currently being treated like a concentration camp on Instagram stories. "People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING," she said.
'Happy Death Day' filmmaker Christopher Landon took over the responsibility of directing 'Scream VII' from filmmaker Radio Silence. The filming of 'Scream VII' has not started as the progress slowed down on the part of actors and writers.
Spyglass would change plans due to Barrera's firing. Paramount managed the distribution of the recent installments and would return for a comeback of a new film.
Landon explained on X, formerly Twitter, that everything was a mess, so please stop yelling at me as this was not a decision he had to make.
The 'Scream VI' in 2022 earned $137.7 million globally with the help of Barrera and other generations of cast members from the franchise. The lead in 'Scream VI' was Sam Carpenter, the older sister of Jenna Ortega.
Barrera starred in 'Scream VI' released in March and topped $168.9 million at the global box office.
