Trial began in New York on Thursday for two men who allegedly planned to rape and murder women and children, the AP reported.
Internet chats between Michael Vanhise, 23, and Robert Christopher Asch, 61, supposedly detailed their plans to kill members of Vanhise's family.
However, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brook Cucinella said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was able to prevent the attacks from happening.
Though defense attorneys reportedly admitted the evidence used in court would be difficult to hear, they argued that the disturbing fantasies discussed by both men were never meant to be carried out or hurt anyone.
Asch used to work as a librarian at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and Vanhise was a mechanic in New Jersey.
According to the AP, this trial stems from the conviction of NYPD officer Gilberto Valle who plotted to kidnap and eat women. Valle, 28, was found guilty in March and frequented the same website as the two other men, called Dark Fetish Network.
