The Virgin Galactic astronaut Kellie Gerardi wore a friendship bracelet inspired by Taylor Swift on her trip to space.
Gerardi traded friendship bracelets with her friends this year at the Eras tour.
Gerardi Wore Friendship Bracelet to Space
In a FaceTime call, Gerardi talked about her recent trip to space earlier this month and said, "I was the 90th woman ever to go to space." She said that going to the space was still like a new realm for her, but that was the reason why she did not want to hold herself back from going.
Gerardi conducted three experiments during her two-hour flight. Besides being an astronaut, she was also a mother of a 6-year-old girl.
She said having to like science and sparkle was very important for the girls. She added that she has always been conscious of being a woman in STEM, a science, technology, engineering, and math course.
"All of the things that I love that are the essence of some of the girlhood things that I celebrate are compatible with space with science with STEM, and I wanted her to know these things aren't mutually exclusive," she said.
Taylor Swift and the Eras tour inspired the friendship bracelets she took to the space. She hoped to give Swift the friendship bracelet she wore to the space.
Gerardi was a Swiftie, and she admired the singer as Swift was changing the world. She said we were currently in an era of women breaking barriers and admitted that Swift has always been an inspiration.
Gerardi's space voyage has been more than just a professional accomplishment. Her voyage represented women progressing in STEM while preserving their identities.
Friendship Bracelets of Taylor Swift
The friendship bracelet craze began during the Eras tour in the summer of 2023. The Swifties have been DIY-ing the friendship bracelets for the tour and the film's release.
Swifties tossed these bracelets from section to section and filled their wrists with as many as they could get their hands on.
Swfties started their obsession with the friendship bracelets when Swift released her song in the 'Midnights' album called 'You're on Your Own Kid,' with the lyrics "Make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it."
The friendship bracelets now symbolize their loyalty, commemoration of their Eras tour concert date, and a connection with other Swifties.
The friendship bracelets were filled with some of the lyrics of Swift's songs and song titles, making it a Swiftie badge of honor. Her bracelets were also inspired by her love for cats, especially her youngest cat, Benjamin Button, her 2008 album 'Fearless,' her support for the LGBTQIA+ community, and her 'Lover' album.
Celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter, Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Aaron Dessner, and Swift herself have also joined the trend.
