On Sunday, Taylor Swift met and welcomed the family of Ana Clara Benevides to her show in São Paulo, who died due to extreme heat at her Rio concert.
On November 17, Benevides fainted during Swift's concert in Rio and, later on, died at the hospital as Brazil was currently experiencing an extreme heat wave. The intense heat became unbearable for many fans inside and outside the concert, and Swift even paused her show to address those in the audience searching for water.
Taylor Swift Meets Benevides Family
Swift met the Benevides family and took a picture with them in her dressing room, wearing the 23-year-old's face on their shirt. A video was also shared on social media that showed the family entering the VIP section during the concert's closing night in South America.
When Swift learned about Benevides's passing, she posted on her Instagram to address her death and heartbreak.
She wrote, "I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show... she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young."
She added that she would not be able to speak about Benevides' death from the stage as she felt overwhelmed by grief whenever she tried to talk about it.
Swift wanted to say that she deeply felt the loss, and her broken heart went to Benevides' family. She hoped that this would be the last time that would happen when they brought the tour back to Brazil.
Her Saturday night concert was postponed due to the extreme heat conditions. Swift returned on Sunday and performed her emotional rendition of her ballad "Bigger Than The Whole Sky," a tribute to Benevides.
The representative of Swift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Swift's following international tour dates will be held in Tokyo. On Monday, Swift announced that 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' will be available to rent at home on December 13, her birthday.
The extended version will be premiered, including the performances of three songs initially cut from the film.
'The Eras Tour' Success
Swift was recently praised for her era's tour, from setting new ticket sale records to boosting the economy with employment opportunities.
Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan highlighted that Americans should be thankful to Taylor Swift this year. In an op-ed headlined "We Should All Give Thanks for Taylor Swift," Noonan wrote that Swift brings joy, jobs, and happy feet everywhere she goes.
She concludes that Swift is the Person of the Year as a reference to TIME's yearly tradition. She added that Swift has been the best thing that happened to America as something good happens in America whenever she is around.
Noonan argued that Swift's record-breaking concert tours across the country have not only solidified her reputation as an American pop icon but also brought a blessing to the economy.
