Rosalynn Carter, the 39th First Lady of the United States, has been remembered one final time before she was laid to rest at a private but televised funeral service on Wednesday (November 29).
The former first lady's remains were placed at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains prior to the service.
Among the mourners in the congregation was her husband, former US President Jimmy Carter, who was 99 when his wife died.
After the service, residents of Plains gathered on the sides of the road to pay their last respects to their hometown neighbor.
A Simple Funeral
The Associated Press reported that earlier tributes were held in nearby Americus and Atlanta.
Rosalynn Carter was not "just the first lady of the White House, Maranatha Pastor Tony Lowden told the gathering, but "served every nation around the world."
She would be buried in a plot of land near their old home in Plains, which she would one day share with her husband of 77 years, who left home hospice care to attend this week's memorial services.
