Walmart announced on Friday (December 1) that it would no longer advertise on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
"We aren't advertising on X as we've found other platforms to better reach our customers," a Walmart spokesperson said.
X did not immediately respond to reporters' requests for comment.
Aftermath of Elon Musk's F-Bomb?
X has struggled to retain advertisers since Musk acquired the company in October 2022 and has recently faced a new wave of companies pulling out their advertisements over rising concerns about the juxtaposition of their ads alongside alleged antisemitic content.
In the past few days, Musk himself was also embroiled in accusations that he was antisemitic, prompting him to visit Israel, especially the areas where Hamas attacked. He also met with Israeli officials like President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Upon his return, Musk apologized for his X posts during an interview at a New York Times DealBook event this week, but also told firms critical of him to "go f*** [themselves]."
An executive at a major ad-buying agency told Reuters, on the condition of anonymity, that X ad sales representatives appeared frustrated in the aftermath of Musk's outburst against brands and did not have much to say in conversations.
