The Grammy-winning musician Billie Eilish has recently lost 100,000 Instagram followers after opening up about her attraction to women during her red-carpet interview with Variety on November 13.
Eilish first revealed that she was attracted to women following her answer to the interviewee, "Wasn't it obvious?"
Eilish Lost 100k Instagram Followers
According to social media stats platform Social Blade, Eilish had 110,300,420 followers on Instagram. She lost 100,000 followers after coming out, which stands at 110,200,603 as of December 3, and 45,000 followers out of 100,000 have dropped off since Saturday.
During her interview for the publication's Power of Women issue, Eilish confessed that she had trouble connecting with women. She said that she could not relate to girls very well. She added, "I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm attracted to them for real."
Eilish admitted that she was physically attracted to women and was intimidated by their beauty and presence, even though she had deep connections with women in her life.
A red-carpet interviewer asked Eilish whether she had intended to come out, and she responded, "I kind of thought, 'Wasn't it obvious?' I didn't realize people didn't know."
She noted that people should just let her exist, as she has been doing this for a long time and did not want to talk about it. "I kind of thought, 'Wasn't it obvious?' I didn't realize people didn't know," she shockingly said.
Even though 100,000 followers did not seem like a loss to the remaining million followers of Eilish, it was still disappointing for the singer that some fans had quickly turned their back on her for such a simple comment. Those 100,000 followers seemed like they were never truly Eilish's fans in the first place.
Followers React to British Vogue Shoot
Eilish has also lost over six figures in followers in a short time two years ago. The singer lost 100,000 followers because of a cover shoot with British Vogue, in which she wore a corset.
Eilish said during the bizarre drop in her followers, "I lost 100,000 followers just because of boobs. People are scared of big boobs."
One of Eilish's struggles has been the double standards within the music industry from the simple act of getting dressed. Her fans were deeply attached to her signature look of oversized streetwear, a skater-goth aesthetic, which some saw as refusing to be sexualized.
However, when she started experimenting with new looks and clothes in more form-fitting clothes, she received vicious reactions from her fans. Some trolls commented maliciously, like, "The industry really changed you, huh smh."
But Eilish will not likely miss those followers. She was still sitting comfortably on Instagram with 110 million followers who continued to support her no matter her sexuality or her cup size.
