The White House is now warning about Ukraine funds nearly running out. Because of this, the U.S. Congress is being urged to take action before 2023 ends.
White House Budget Chief Shalanda Young opened this topic after sending letters to party leaders in the Senate and the House on Monday, Dec. 4.
She said that lawmakers don't have much time to approve more financial assistance and military aid to Ukraine to help it fend off invading Russian soldiers.
White House Says Ukraine Aid is Nearly Running Out
Shalanda Young said that the lack of funding from the United States could cripple Ukraine in the ongoing war against Russia.
"I want to be clear: Without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine," said the White House budget chief via Politico.
Shalanda said that the lack of congressional action will also hinder Ukraine from receiving equipment from the U.S. military stocks.
"There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money - and nearly out of time," warned Young.
The top White House official's letters were sent specifically to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Shalanda Young's warning is the latest one coming from the U.S. government as the Biden Administration seeks to get the $61.4 billion emergency funding for Ukraine, which was recently proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden.
Reuters reported that this is a part of the $106 budget request to fund ambitious plans for Israel, Ukraine, and the U.S. border security.
Ukraine's Entering New War Phase
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that they are entering a new war phase against Russia because winter is setting in. He said that although they are fighting the second-best army in the world, they will never back down.
However, he admitted that they are losing a lot of people against Russia because of a lack of military equipment and manpower. Although this is the case, Zelenskyy said that they did their best to achieve faster and more satisfying results.
"We are losing people, I'm not satisfied. We didn't get all the weapons we wanted, I can't be satisfied, but I also can't complain too much," said the Ukrainian leader.
This is why getting the financial assistance and military aid of the U.S. is a big deal for Ukraine. As of writing, the Congress hasn't confirmed if they will approve the billion-dollar budget request of Joe Biden.
