The Dallas police department confirmed that Logan De La Cruz, a one-year-old boy, was dead in the quadruple killing in the Dallas house shooting on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, a website that tracks shootings across the US, the killings marked the 627th mass shooting this year.
One-Year-Old Boy Dead in Dallas House Shooting
The shooting occurred at about 4:20 pm on Sunday when police responded to calls of gunfire in the 9700 block of Royce Drive. The police reported that the carnage stemmed from an isolated incident and said there was no public threat.
According to the police statement, they found three adults dead from gunshot wounds inside the house and two children, De La Cruz and a 15-year-old girl, when they arrived at the scene.
The others killed in the shooting were identified by the Dallas county medical examiner's office as Vanessa De La Cruz, 20; Karina Lopez, 33; and Jose Lopez, 50. De La Cruz was rushed to the hospital with injuries. The teenage girl, whose name was not released, remained in the hospital on Monday with a stable condition.
Byron Carrillo, the suspect in the house shooting, fled the home after the shooting and then stole a vehicle. The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one the suspect was driving on Interstate 35 in Austin, about 200 (321 kilometers) south of Dallas, and tried to pull him over.
The Department of Public Safety reported that Carrillo hit a concrete barrier and crashed after taking an exit. The police said that he fled on foot behind a business and shot himself in a parking area. Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman continued the investigation of the motive of the deadly shooting, and Texas Rangers will investigate Carrillo's death.
The website defined the incident as a mass shooting with a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed. The medical examiner's office identified De La Cruz as the 272nd child 11 years old or younger who died in a shooting this year.

Homicides in Dallas
According to the Dallas police department crime data, the number of homicides in Dallas was up roughly 11% this year from 2022. The data recorded 12 homicides in April 2022, up by four from the same period last year, representing an increase of 50%.
The homicides were reported in half of the City of Dallas' 14 districts (Districts 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10), an additional district compared to the six that saw homicides in April 2021.
The City of Dallas Districts 2, 4, 9, and 10 had homicide offenses reported in April 2022 (two, three, one, and one, respectively) after having none reported in April of the previous year. As of Sunday, the city has recorded 226 homicides.
