A Minnesota cashier was brutally impaled by a golf club. Authorities said that the incident happened on Friday, Dec. 8; confirming that they received reports regarding a stabbing incident.
The Minneapolis Police Department said that the alarming crime happened at a business in the 200 block of Oak Grove St. in Minneapolis. Just before 1:00 p.m., law enforcement authorities decided to respond to reports. Once they arrived at the grocery store, they found a 66-year-old man behind the counter stabbed with a golf club through his torso. Here are other details shared by the Minneapolis Police Department.
Minnesota: Cashier Brutally Impaled by Golf Club
The Minneapolis Police Department published a press release regarding the golf club stabbing incident.
"Officers located a 66-year-old man behind the counter with a golf club impaled through his torso," said MPD via its official public info release.
MPD officials said that first responders immediately tried to save the man; giving him medical aid until he was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center.
Unfortunately, the injuries that the man acquired were too severe, leading to his death at the hospital.
According to Fox News' latest report, MPD was able to track down the suspect to a nearby apartment unit, thanks to the information provided by a witness.
"Upon receiving information from a witness, officers tracked the suspect to a nearby apartment unit. The suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment," said the police department.
MPD said that the drone unit, the SWAT team, negotiators, as well as the Minneapolis Police Department bomb squad all responded to the scene.
Thanks to all their efforts, they were able to arrest the 44-year-old suspect after six hours.
Reason Behind Golf Club Stabbing Still Unknown
MPD officials said that the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division already gathered evidence as part of their investigation. As of writing, authorities are still trying to determine what triggered the man to do such as brutal crime.
MPD Chief Brian O'Hara said that the suspect came into the grocery store before the police arrived with some items to purchase. He added that the man allegedly went behind the counter and began assaulting the victim.
Co-workers of the 66-year-old man were heartbroken after hearing the news. One of them said that he wasn't able to sleep because of what happened to his friend.
The colleague added that it's like losing a member of his family. Others remembered all the good things that the victim did before he was mercilessly killed.
