12 Passengers Rescued After Boat Sinks Near DR

All hands were rescued safe and well, the US Coast Guard says.

A boat carrying 12 passengers sank off the northern coast of the Dominican Republic during inclement weather.

According to the US Coast Guard, all hands were rescued, with half of them found aboard a raft by a Carnival Cruise Line ship that was sailing in the area on Wednesday (December 13).

USCG: All Hands Alive, Accounted For

The Associated Press reported that the incident occurred about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Puerto Plata, where a high surf advisory was in effect.

Coast Guard officials added that all 12 passengers were airlifted to the Puerto Plata hospital for medical treatment and were in good health.
