The latest NYC power outage puts New Yorkers into darkness for a few seconds. Authorities said that the blackout happened after midnight on Friday, Dec. 15.
New Yorkers said that the electricity suddenly went out for a second. After that, the power came back. However, the lights started flickering again.
If you are in New York, here's what caused the second-long power outage and other major details.
What Caused NYC Power Outage?
One of New Yorkers on social media shared a video showing an explosion at a Con Edison facility in Brooklyn.
"Looks like something small exploded at the ConEd plant in Brooklyn, sending a small fireball and smoke into the air, and causing a momentary NYC power outage," said Sean Scott via his official post on X (formerly called Twitter).
According to The US Sun, Con Edison is a New York-based energy firm that offers gas and electricity services. However, it wasn't officially confirmed that the explosion was the main cause of the power outage.
Based on the video, you can see that smoke appeared, but the lights were still on in Brooklyn. Although this is the case, the energy company still released a statement.
"We are currently investigating this issue and appreciate your patience while we look into this matter," said Con Edison via The New York Post.
As of writing, New York City claims that most electricity is back up and running. But, some New Yorkers still complain that their power hasn't been restored yet.
If you are among the New Yorkers who experience power issues, the best thing you can do is wait for further announcements from NYC officials and Con Edison.

New Yorkers Share Experience During Blackout
New Yorkers and responders share their experiences during the power outage. Although the blackout only lasted for a few seconds, what they went through is still alarming.
Authorities said that some escalators and elevators went out of service at the Grand Central Terminal; a huge NYC transit hub. Some New Yorkers were even stuck on the subway for around 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, other residents said they were trapped in elevators during the blackout. Aside from these, New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan, Bed-Stuy, Downtown Brooklyn, Long Island, and Upper East Side said that lights were flickering in their neighborhoods.
One of them said that he and his mother were just in the kitchen when the lights suddenly went out. These are just some of the experiences that NYC citizens shared.
