A man was believed to have shot three women dead and wounded a man before killing himself during a traffic stop in central Illinois on Thursday (December 14).
Police said they were first called to a home in Ashland after receiving a report that a man was shot. They discovered the man and a woman who were also shot dead at the scene.
Local media reported that the wounded man told police about a related attack at another Ashland home, where authorities found two other women dead.
The wounded man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Police to Name Gunman, Victims on Friday
Police identified a suspect, and officers located his vehicle in Jacksonville, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southwest of Ashland. They found the man dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the car.
Cass County Sheriff Devron Ohrn said in an email that he was planning to release the victims' and suspect's names later on Friday (December 15).
No further details were expected to be released as investigations are underway.
