Former Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger has reportedly agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers. Assuming he clears waivers, Grangers hopes to play as early as Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans, ESPN reports.
Granger, who agreed to a buyout with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, appears likely to get his wish of finishing the season with a championship-contending team.
"Former All-Star forward Danny Granger has decided to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a source with knowledge of the situation," ESPN's Ramona Shelburne wrote on Friday. "... (Granger) chose the Clippers late Thursday night because they offered him the best opportunity to play meaningful minutes for a contender. ...
"If no team claims Granger, 30, he can sign with the Clippers. Granger already was in Los Angeles on Thursday and worked out at a local gym, according to a source.
"Granger hopes to play Saturday when the Clippers host the Pelicans, a source said."
The Clippers, which signed former Orlando Magic center Glen Davis on Monday, still have one available roster spot to fill after trading Byron Mullens and Antawn Jamison last week.
Indiana dealt their nine-year veteran and a second-round pick on Feb. 20 to Philadelphia in exchange for swingman Evan Turner and the expiring contract of forward Lavoy Allen.
Granger had drawn interest from teams such as the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.
He has until 5 p.m. ET on Friday to clear waivers. If he goes unclaimed, a deal with the Clippers could be completed Friday night.
