The Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy was named the host of the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards in 2024 on January 27.
Jo Koy's producers chose him because of his infectious energy and relatable humor.
Jo Koy to Host 2024 Golden Globe Awards
Jo Koy has previously starred in the comedy 'Easter Sunday.' In 2021, he released his autobiography 'Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All-American Combo.'
According to AP News, the Golden Globe Awards would be Koy's first major award show hosting gig. After hearing he was tapped to host the Globes, he released a statement and said, "I'm so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year. This is the moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!"
He added that he has stepped onto many stages worldwide in his career but admitted that the Globes hosting would be extra special. The Golden Globes will award the best in television and film as the official kickoff to Hollywod's 2024 awards season. The nominees for the Golden Globes were revealed earlier this month.
'Barbenheimer' ruled the list, with nine votes for 'Barbie' and eight for 'Oppenheimer.' The final season of "Succession" also received nine nominations. Cedric 'The Entertainer' and Wilmer Valderrama announced the nominations in 27 categories, live-streamed by CBS News. The nominations in 10 categories were also broadcast live on CBS Mornings.
The 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be on January 7 from 8 pm to 11 pm ET (5-8 pm PT) and broadcast live on CBS as part of their new agreement. The ceremony will also be available to stream on Paramount+ and the CBS app.
The Golden Globes has partnered with CBS after its longstanding relationship with NBC ended. The upcoming award show works to rebuild its credibility under new leadership following a scandal and boycotts over allegations of racism and ethical lapses within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Golden Globes.

Golden Globes Awards' Controversies
In February 2021, the HFPA encountered significant criticism after it appeared none of its members were black. The Los Angeles Times said that the voting body comprised around 80 members.
The HFPA immediately issued a statement and said they were working on an action plan to recruit black members. Due to the pandemic, the ceremony occurred in March rather than its usual January date.
Furthermore, the Los Angeles Times also reported on a culture of corruption, which included members exchanging votes for perks and access to celebrities.
The Lily Collins 'Emily In Paris' series has received two major nods, while Michaela Coel's critically acclaimed 'I May Destroy You' has been snubbed. The awards resulted in an outcry on social media, and even an 'Emily In Paris' writer wrote an opinion piece about it for the Guardian.
