Czech police have identified the gunman who killed at least 14 people and injured at least 25 others in a mass shooting incident in Prague on Thursday, December 21 as David Kozak.
Authorities investigating the incident said that the shooting occurred in the philosophy department of Charles University in the Czech capital and that the death toll might rise in the next few days.
Police also found Kozak's body inside the university but it was unclear if he killed himself or was shot by officers.
No information about the victims or a potential motive for the shooting was provided by police as of writing.
Meanwhile, Charles University officials announced that they would increase security measures in its buildings effective immediately.
"We express our deepest condolences to all the bereaved families who lost their loved ones," the university said in a statement. "Our thoughts are now with the loved ones of those who are now fighting for their lives."
Premeditated Christmas Killing Spree
Kozak was a 24-year-old history student at the university who allegedly killed his own father before commencing the shooting spree. He lived in a village almost 20 km outside Prague.
He legally owned several guns and was heavily armed during the shooting.
Prague Police Chief Martin Vondrasek said he was an "excellent student" before the shooting and what he did was "well thought out" and "horrible."
It was also revealed that Kozak initially talked about planning a school shooting on the messaging app Telegram, treating his channel there like a "diary" of his life before the shooting.
"I want to do school shooting and possibly suicide," he wrote in a Telegram post. "I always wanted to kill. I thought I would become a maniac in the future."
He was also suspected of shooting another man a week before the mass shooting, the Associated Press reported.
