In Ocala, Florida, authorities are actively pursuing the individual believed to be responsible for the shooting incident that occurred inside a local mall on Saturday.
Tragically, one person lost his life while another sustained injuries during this violent incident, which took place on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The police's search for the suspect remains ongoing.
Ocala Mall Shooting Remains at Large
In a statement on Saturday, Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken revealed that authorities have reason to believe that the shooting incident was a deliberate act of violence, specifically targeting a particular individual or group.
A male individual, later identified as 40-year-old David Nathaniel Barron, was discovered dead due to gunshot injuries in a common area within the mall, according to authorities. Additionally, a woman had a gunshot wound to her leg but is anticipated to recover from her injuries.
According to police, the suspect, described as a Black man wearing black pants, a hoodie, and a black mask, fled the mall on foot following the shooting incident on Saturday.
In a statement to the press on Saturday evening, Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said officers swiftly entered the mall and determined that the situation did not meet the criteria for an active shooter, as he informed reporters.
According to police, additional mall patrons were also injured in the shooting incident. One individual experienced chest pain, while another reported a broken arm.
In the early hours of Sunday, Ocala police released a photograph of an individual they consider a person of interest in the incident. WPG, the owner of the mall, received an email inquiry. The mall features a wide array of stores, with notable names such as JCPenney and Foot Locker among its ranks.
Calvin and Diana Amos, shoppers at the JCPenney store, said that they promptly evacuated the premises upon realizing the situation at hand. The individuals in question have characterized their emotions as being filled with fear and unease, The Guardian reported.

Per CNN, the police are seeking assistance from the general public in identifying this individual, who can be seen in the images wearing dark attire, white sneakers, and a red hat.
