Russian President Vladimir Putin could consider a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. If this truce really happens, it would be considered the first ceasefire in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine since 2022.
This critical information was revealed by two former senior Russian officials who are familiar with Russia's activities and close to American and international authorities.
They claimed that the Russian ruler is open to a ceasefire at Ukraine's current boundary lines. Here are other details they revealed.
Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Could Be Considered by Vladimir Putin
A ceasefire would definitely help Ukraine recover from the heavy fights it has faced ever since Russia started its full-blown invasion of the European country.
USA Today reported that over 10,000 civilians were killed because of the Russia-Ukraine war. Meanwhile, more than 18,500 innocent residents were injured.
Now, a former Russian official said that Vladimir Putin is really willing to "stop at the current positions." However, he clarified that the Russian leader is "not willing to retreat one meter."
Based on his statements, Russia's president is considering a truce with Ukrainian soldiers. However, he doesn't want to retreat from the invasion he started.
However, some international officials warned that the possible war truce might just be a part of Russia's tactics to deceive the world. According to The Kyiv Post's latest report, this could be one of Russia's misinformation campaign strategies.
However, Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vladimir Putin is ready for talks regarding a ceasefire. He explained that the Russian ruler considered a truce since it would also benefit their own goals.
This is not the first time that Putin has reportedly shown interest in a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. In September 2022, rumors also claimed that Vladimir sent a similar message about a truce with Ukrainians.

Will Volodymyr Zelenskyy Accept Ceasefire?
Even if Vladimir Putin considers the reported Russia-Ukraine ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy still needs to provide his approval.
However, many military experts said this is unlikely since Russia still holds some parts of the country. This was shown in January after Kyiv dismissed Vladimir Putin's proposal.
During that month, Putin ordered his defense minister to issue a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine. This truce was expected to last for 36 hours so that Orthodox Christians could attend Christmas services.
However, Ukranian officials rejected the proposal since they believed that the ceasefire offered by the Russian government was "hypocrisy."
Putin's proposal came after the Russian Orthodox Church leader, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, called for a truce between Jan. 6 and Jan. 7.
Since Ukrainian officials don't trust any Russian official, they said that the ceasefire could be one of the Kremlin's tactics to gather equipment, ammunition, and reserves they need to fend off Ukrainian soldiers.
