On the third anniversary of the January 6th, 2020 civil unrest at the U.S. Capitol, President Joe Biden will speak at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania to hammer home the case that former President Donald J Trump poses an "existential threat" to American democracy, according to Rueters. Valley Forge is famously known as the headquarters of George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
Biden will follow that with a stop at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. This is the site of one of the largest racially motivated mass shootings in recent American historyand President Biden will be visting Monday. There he will reportedly focus on the rising threats of political violence.
The two visits signify the most direct public attacks against Donald Trump by President Biden, as well as the party and conservative base over which he currently holds sway.
"The choice for voters next year will not simply be between competing philosophies of governing. The choice for the American people in November 2024 will be about protecting our democracy and every American's fundamental freedoms," said Biden campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez.
On January 6, 2020 thousands of Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol in an ill-fated attempt to stop the formal certification of the election defeat of Donald J. Trump. The incident caused millions in damages and resulted in the deaths of four people, including a Capitol Police officer. Since then, four of the officers on duty that day have committed suicide.
Former President Trump is currently facing federal charges stemming from the attempted overturning of the 2020 election and was recently removed from the from the ballots in Colorado and Maine due to his alleged role in the Capitol attack.
Trump's defense team believes he is disputing claims that he engaged in insurrection and argue that his remarks to his supporters and protected by his right to free speech.
On Tuesday, Trump campaign advisers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita released a memo that blames Biden for the legal indictments of Trump and the judicial decisions that have been made to declare Trump ineligible to run for office in two states.
"Please make no mistake: Joe Biden and his allies are a real and compelling threat to our Democracy," they wrote. "In fact, in a way never seen before in our history, they are waging a war against it."
