NVIDIA Announces New AI Integrations

It seems that like most companies NVIDIA is now integrating AI into its systems to create a more seamless experience for content creators but this is just a small portion of the slew of announcements that the tech company shared in its "special address" early Monday.

Sam Altman's shock return as chief executive of OpenAI late on November 22 -- days after being sacked -- caps a chaotic period that highlighted deep tensions at the heart of the Artificial Intelligence community. The board that fired Altman from his role as CEO of the ChatGPT creator has been almost entirely replaced following a rebellion by employees, cementing his position at the helm of the firm. To begin they announced Gen AI short for Generative AI is meant to change how players interact with the games they play and will enhance the creativity process by giving content creators a "Co-pilot to make us all more productive". They also revealed that their first look into AI began in 2006 when they launched GeForce 8800 GTX "Designed to play the most challenging video games it proved it could run Crysis".

At the time of its release, Crysis was notorious for being one of the most graphically demanding games along with its intense first-person shooter gameplay. They continued their story up to 2018 when they launched RTX which led to even better graphics and real-time ray tracing which they described as a rendering method capable of authentically replicating the illumination of a scene and its objects. It achieves this by generating physically accurate reflections, refractions, shadows, and indirect lighting. In layman's terms, it makes the player's experience more immersive.

What Was The Coolest?

One of the most interesting highlights was Hybrid AI which can be used for video conferencing tools such as Microsoft Teams and image tools like Adobe Photoshop which includes "Firefly Powered Generative Fill running in the cloud while RTX GPU's power AI tools on the PC" making image editing more fluid.

This tool can also be used for NPCs in games an article from the gaming outlet IGN revealed that Nvidia showcased AI-powered non-player characters (NPCs) in games, touted to engage in dynamic conversations with players. However, the demonstration appeared akin to a text-to-speech program reading output from a ChatGPT-like source.

In the final portion of their address, they moved to the world of robotics sharing "How the infusion of generative AI into robotics is speeding up the ability to bring robots from proof-of-concept to real-world development".

A highlight reel was then played while they were discussing how new robots can help with decreasing costs and tackling labor shortages within warehouses and manufacturing with the next steps being agriculture, construction, retail, and even healthcare.

This recent series of announcements underscores the ongoing progression of AI development, even in the face of challenges such as those posed by outlets like The Guardian. The unfolding benefits and challenges of this technological advancement will become clearer over time as the landscape evolves.
