Heuermann previously pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

Rex Heuermann, the prime suspect in the killings on Gilgo Beach in New York, is expected to be charged with a fourth count of murder.

Heuermann was arrested outside his Manhattan architecture office in July for the murder of three sex workers.

On Tuesday, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney will announce the additional charges after they are disclosed at the Suffolk County Courthouse in Riverhead on Long Island.

He was charged with the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello. The three women were discovered in high weeds near Gilgo Beach, on the south shore of Long Island.

According to NBC, a bail application claimed that he was considered to be the prime suspect in Brainard-Barnes' murder following his arrest in connection with the killings of Barthelemy, Waterman, and Costello. The authorities had substantial evidence of his involvement in the case.

In July 2023, Heuermann pleaded not guilty to three charges of first-degree murder and three charges of second-degree murder in the killings of Barthelemy, Waterman, and Costello. He sobbed when he officially read the charges in court and was ordered held without bail.

The "Gilgo Four" women's bodies were found in December 2010 when investigators were looking for Shannan Gilbert, another sex worker who disappeared at the same time. All four women were found in an area of the Ocean Parkway.

The authorities said that Heuermann's DNA was linked to the deaths after it was discovered in the trash outside his workplace from a thrown-away pizza slice. His wife's hair was also found at the crime scene, and the police concluded that the items used in the killings, including tape and burlap sacks, came from the residence they shared.

The authorities discovered the remains of eleven other bodies while looking for Gilbert. Gilbert's remains were found in December 2011. Two days later, three more bodies turned up in the search, including Waterman, Costello, and Brainard-Barnes' bodies. In March 2011, part of Jessica Taylor's body was discovered along Ocean Parkway.

Furthermore, the police claimed that partial remains of Mack had also been found years earlier in Manorville, about 45 miles east of Gilgo Beach. Mack was not identified until 2020. Heuermann has not been charged in the deaths of Gilbert, Taylor, and Mack.

The bodies of a female toddler and a man were discovered the following month. Two more bodies were found in Nassau County, where Heuermann lives.

In an interview with NBC's 'Dateline' in November, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said authorities were looking into possible connections between Heuermann and the other victims.

"One thing we're not going to do is rule out any of those bodies that were found out on Ocean Parkway," he said.
