GOP Hopefuls Fare Better Than Biden in Latest Poll

Nikki Haley has the best results, but Donald Trump still has a significant GOP primary lead.

A recent poll showed that three of the top Republican presidential candidates have fared better than US President Joe Biden in a hypothetical general election faceoff.

According to a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted between January 10 to 12 among over 2,800 adults, with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points, former President Donald Trump, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Florida governor Ron DeSantis all slightly edge out Biden in a head-to-head matchup.

While Trump remained the clear favorite in the GOP primary, Haley fared the best against Biden with a substantial 53%-45% lead. DeSantis was next with 51%-48%, while Trump only had a 50%-48% lead.

Independents Crucial for Haley to Come Out on Top

The results likely reflected Haley garnering more support among moderates and independents than what Trump and DeSantis received, the survey added.

The poll added that 59% of independent voters would support Haley in a faceoff against Biden, while 55% and 54% of independents would back DeSantis and Trump, respectively.

Meanwhile, Trump still maintained a comfortable lead in the GOP primary with 69% of support, while DeSantis (14%) and Haley (12%) lag far behind.
