Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson Diagnosed With Skin Cancer Months After Breast Cancer Treatment

Sarah Ferguson was treated for breast cancer in July.

A representative for the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer six months after beating breast cancer.

The melanoma was discovered when several moles were removed during Ferguson's reconstructive surgery following a mastectomy.

The Duchess has been recovering at the MAYRLIFE center, a medical wellness resort in Altaussee, Austria while undergoing treatment for her melanoma in London.

The representative said she is undergoing further investigations to ensure the illness has been caught early. The additional diagnosis after the treatment for breast cancer has been distressing for the Duchess, but she remains in good spirits.

According to People, a friend of Ferguson shared that the second cancer diagnosis in a matter of months has been a shock and blow. However, she said that Ferguson has been resilient, and her time in Austria has helped her gather strength as her family continued supporting her.

Ferguson's eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, has a connection to her mother's recent cancer diagnosis, as she is a patron of the British Skin Foundation and has previously worked with skin cancer patients.

Ferguson Thankful for Beating Breast Cancer

Ferguson extended her gratitude to the entire medical team who supported her, especially the dermatologist whose vigilance ensured the illness was detected. She also thanked the people who encouraged her to have her moles checked.

The representative shared that Ferguson also believed her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color, and texture and the emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma.

"The Duchess is receiving the best medical care, and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family. The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days," the representative continued.

Furthermore, Ferguson announced that she beat her breast cancer in a New Year's Eve message posted on social media.

Last November, Ferguson told People that her two wonderful daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, supported her throughout her breast cancer journey. She called them her "wholehearted cheerleaders, my devoted champions, and my soulmates."

She added that they have been as supportive as they can be, as they always are.

On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton was recovering from a scheduled stomach surgery and would spend 10 to 14 days in the hospital, followed by a lengthy recovery period back at home.

Buckingham Palace also shared that King Charles III would be undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate that same day. The statement claimed that the King's public engagements would be postponed for a short recovery period.
