Tim Scott Proposes to Partner After Bowing Out of GOP Primary Race

The Black Republican senator said he and his partner plan to get married this year.

Republican Senator Tim Scott (SC)—a former GOP presidential candidate who recently conceded his bid to support former president Donald Trump—successfully proposed to his girlfriend, Mindy Noce, on Saturday, Jan. 20 at a beach in Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

The senator, who is one of the top picks to run as Trump's vice-president, said that he struggled to ask the question due to him being an "introvert."

"Mindy, thank you for making me the luckiest man in the world," he tweeted, posting photos of him and Noce during the event.

He previously told the Washington Post that he intended to marry someone who agreed with his religious values.

"I've been very patient and prayerful, and I'm really excited and somewhat nervous, and I couldn't be more thankful for having found a soul mate and someone who shares a lot of the same interests, passions, and goals that I do," he added.

Scott as Trump's VP

Meanwhile, there are speculations that Scott - a lifelong bachelor and the sole Black Republican in the US Senate - could be a contender for Trump's vice-presidential ticket after endorsing him in New Hampshire on Friday (Jan. 19) after abandoning his own presidential bid late last year.

His support for Trump highlighted his distancing from former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, who appointed him to Capitol Hill during her time in office.

Who is Mindy Noce?

Noce is a Charleston-based interior designer and mother of three from her previous marriage. According to the Post, she was spotted at a church in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday (Jan. 21) wearing an engagement ring.

Scott, 58, added that he and Noce have been dating since last year after being introduced at church and bonding over Bible study. He also obtained the blessing of her parents about two weeks before Christmas.

Prior to his decision to do a sunset beach proposal, Scott initially wanted to do so after a pickleball game if not for a personal friend rejecting the idea.

Scott was previously engaged to another woman two decades ago but has since been called off. He said that he and Noce were planning to get married this year.
