Illinois Based Tech Company's CEO Falls to Death in Stage Mishap at Work Event

The incident remains under investigation.

Vistex CEO Sanjay Shah lost his life last week on stage while celebrating the firm's anniversary.

Shah died due to injuries he received in an accident at the company's silver jubilee festivities in Ramoji Film City, India. The authorities reported that the company's president, Raju Datla, was also seriously injured.

Shah Died On Stage at Work Event

Vistex planned a two-day celebration in honor of its 25th anniversary and had made arrangements for its staff to stay at Ramoji Film City. A company representative told The Times of India that the incident where Shah and Datla were lowered from a cage onto the stage was a staged act to kick off the celebrations.

During Thursday night's festivities, the New York Post released a video that showed Shah and Datla entering an iron cage intended to be lowered from an undisclosed height. The footage showed one of the chains breaking, causing the two to fall, with one of the men hitting the ground with his head first.

The authorities claimed on Monday that the incident remains under investigation.

"Suddenly, one of the two wires attached to the cage snapped. Both plunged more than 15 feet and landed on the concrete dais," police told the Times of India. "This caused multiple injuries."

Medics rushed the two to a hospital before they were moved to a corporate hospital, where they were in critical condition. According to CBS, Datla sustained a serious head injury, and Shah hurt his hand and leg.

On Monday, Datla was listed in critical condition, and Shah passed away in the hospital. A Vistex representative told Nexstar in a statement that they are still waiting for an official release of information.

Trica O'Brian, president and CEO of the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce, claimed she was mourning the sudden loss of Shah. O'Brian said Shah did so many things for the village of Hoffman estates. She added that he was such a wonderful community partner.

She expressed disbelief at Shah's sudden death and admitted that she could not believe it. She said that when freak accidents happen like this, you are at a loss for words.
