New USPS Priority Mail stamps feature the iconic space images captured by NASA's JWST (James Webb Space Telescope). This was confirmed by the international space union on Monday, Jan. 22.
In September 2022, the U.S. Postal Service and NASA also collaborated to issue a stamp to celebrate its advanced space telescope.
This stamp featured an illustration of the JWST, which was created by a digital artist against a background of stars and some planets. Now, this stamp will be joined by two new Priority Mail stamps.
Via its official blog post, NASA said that the U.S. Postal Service issued two new Priority Mail stamps; the first one features the popular Cosmic Cliffs and the second one shows the Pillars of Creation.
"NASA's James Webb Space Telescope is the perfect intersection of science, engineering, and art as it reveals the greatest secrets of our cosmos through the beautiful images it captures," said NASA's Science Mission Directorate Associate Administration Nicola Fox.
She added that the two new USPS Priority Mail stamps will allow people across the United States to have their own snapshot of the captivating space images captured by NASA's JWST.
"With these stamps, people across the country can have their own snapshot of Webb's captivating images - and the incredible science they represent - at their fingertips, and know that they, too, are part of this ground-breaking new era in astronomy," she explained.

The new USPS Priority Mail stamp Cosmic Cliffs features the version captured by the James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera).
It shows emerging stellar nurseries, as well as individual stars, that were hidden from sight before NASA launched its JWST. The Cosmic Cliffs is considered one of the first full-color images captured by JWST in July 2022.
It is a big deal for NASA since it demonstrated the efficiency of James Webb when it comes to peering through cosmic dust and shedding new light on how stars actually form.
The second USPS Priority stamp, the Pillars of Creation, features the space image captured by JWST's MIRI (Mid-Infrared Instrument). The Pillars of Creation was first taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
But, JWST's version shows more details, such as the gas, dust, enshrouding stars, etc. If you're interested in purchasing one or both of the new USPS Priority Mail stamps, here are their prices:
- USPS Priority Mail Stamp Cosmic Cliffs: $121.80 (a sheet of 4)
- USPS Priority Mail Stamp Pillars of Creation: $39.40 (a sheet of 4)
You can check the sections of these new stamps by visiting the official U.S. Postal Service website. After that, click the Buy Stamps option and select the Stamps button.
