A baby boy, Jaxton Drew, was born Romeo Angles but later referred to as Drew by his father, and tragically lost his life due to distressing circumstances. He was rushed to the hospital from the Southwestern Oaks II residence hall at Georgia Southwestern State University.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called into action by the Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department after the baby was admitted to the emergency room at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus on Jan. 14 at approximately 2 p.m. The child, unfortunately, was unconscious upon arrival and, despite efforts from hospital staff, tragically succumbed to his injuries, as per The News Tribune.

Following an extensive series of interviews, the GBI apprehended an 18-year-old woman named Poague. Currently, she is being held without bond at the Sumter County Jail, facing charges of aggravated battery, felony murder, and cruelty to children in the first degree. The nature of her relationship with the child remains unclear at this juncture.

Respecting the family's plea for privacy, Fox News revealed that a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by a close family friend to support the grieving father. The friend expressed the profound tragedy of a man who was the sole caregiver to his only child, now having to lay him to rest.

In a bid to gather more information, the GBI urges anyone with additional details about the case to contact them at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip online.

Law enforcement authorities believe that baby Jaxton Drew suffered from 'blunt force trauma,' as reported by WALB. However, conclusive information awaits the official autopsy reports, and police are diligently awaiting their completion.

The arrested individual, an 18-year-old reigning beauty pageant winner known as Miss Donalsonville, was taken into custody by GBI agents. Charges of aggravated battery, felony murder, and first-degree cruelty to children were officially laid out on Monday, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

Unsuccessful Efforts to Save Baby Jaxton

According to a statement by the coroner, the child was initially taken from a dormitory on the Georgia Southwestern State campus to Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus around 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 14. Upon arrival, baby Jaxton was unresponsive, and the hospital staff worked tirelessly to save him, albeit unsuccessfully.

The investigation unfolded as interviews were conducted and evidence examined, leading to the arrest of Poague. Despite the suspect sharing images and videos of young children on her social media accounts, the motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear.

Poague, a recent graduate from Southwest Georgia Academy in Damascus, is currently incarcerated at the Sumter County Jail with no bond. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

As the community awaits more details on how the baby sustained the injuries, the ongoing investigation underscores the gravity of the situation. If convicted, Poague faces a potential life sentence, adding another layer of tragedy to this distressing incident.

It is worth noting that the discrepancy in the child's name on the birth certificate being Romeo Angles and referred to as Jaxton Drew by the father introduces an additional layer of complexity to an already sorrowful narrative. The investigation continues, and the community mourns the loss of a young life under tragic circumstances, Daily Mail reported.
