Pixel 9 Leaks: Here's Everything We Know About Google's New Mobile Device

Here's everything we know about Google's Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro so far.

Google's Pixel 9 mobile device line is still a few months from being publicly released but new leaks of the items have come out showing what they look like and what they are capable of.

The first Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro renders have come out and some people may see the resemblance with Apple devices. One of the major differences, however, is the camera bump designs on Google's new devices.

For years, Android manufacturers have used the iPhone design as an inspiration for their own devices. On the other hand, Google's Pixel lineups have more often than not taken a different approach.

The tech giant's design language has largely focused on curved edges and the use of softer materials. Since the introduction of Apple's iPhone 12, the company has used a boxier design language and varying combinations of aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.

The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro's flat edges and material finishes, combined with small touches such as the antenna bands, draw a clear resemblance to the iPhone 12 through the iPhone 15 design language, as per 9to5 Mac.

Furthermore, it also looks similar to the latest Samsung S24 designs but the most obvious difference is the "camera bar" on the back of the Pixel 9 series. While Apple has chosen a square camera bump, Google's new devices are sporting a horizontal camera bar instead.

The release of the Pixel 9 lineup comes as Google's Pixel 8 series has already been out for several months. Similar to its predecessor, the new devices seem to also have the power button and volume rocker on the right-hand side of the device.

Additionally, Google appears to have changed the placement of the SIM card, which now appears to be located on the bottom part of the mobile alongside the USB-C port. Despite the leaks, there is still no solid information about the device's technical specifications.

Difference From Previous Devices

These include whether or not they come with a temperature sensor as there are still a few months before the actual release of the products. Google typically reserves the fall for its new mobile device releases, according to The Verge.

On top of having a differently shaped camera bar, the new Pixel series' camera has an LED flash and a second mystery sensor circle. In its predecessor, the circle located under the LED is a temperature sensor.

The leaks also suggest that the new devices will have a 6.5-inch display, which is something that other users have expressed skepticism about. Some said that this is because the leak measured between the rounded corners of the display to get the sizing while the industry standard is to create imaginary square corners and measure between those.

The base model Pixel 9 included in the leaks is simply the Pro design in a smaller size and has had a few expensive items removed. Usually, the devices' cameras get cut down on the cheaper models either in amount, quality, or both, which cannot yet be determined for the new lineup, said ArsTechnica.
